Virginia Regulators Approve Utility’s Energy Efficiency Reward Programs

The Virginia State Corporation Commission has approved five programs, proposed by major utility provider Dominion Virginia Power, to reduce state energy consumption. The programs will be funded with two rate adjustments, in which the typical residential customer will pay an additional 52 cents per month. With the extra revenue, the utility will provide rebates to residential customers for energy efficient lighting, energy audits and improvements for low-income residential customers, incentives to businesses for energy efficient lighting and upgrading heating and cooling systems, and air conditioner cycling.
