Revision of BPI’s New Home Energy Auditing Standard Released for Public Comment

Malta, NY May 5, 2010 – The Building Performance Institute, Inc. (BPI), recently announced its Home Energy Auditing (EA) Standard, which is available again for public comment for the next 30 days. Created by BPI’s Standards Technical Committee, this new standard provides guidance for professionals conducting residential energy audits and includes recommendations for energy efficiency improvements for single-family and multifamily residential buildings. This standard has already benefited from an extensive array of public comments, which have already been incorporated.

Significant additional revisions of this new standard include:

  • Removal of Annex A – Normative – Alternate Ventilation According to ASHRAE 62-1989
  • Removal of Section 8.1.4.1, which included a reference to Annex A
  • In this review, BPI seeks public comments only on the removal of the references to the ASHRAE 62-1989 standard (as shown with the strike-through language on pages 9 and 14-16). Please limit comments and address only these proposed changes.
